Why do I need a Bridging Visa?

Because visa applications can take months and sometimes even years to process, you may need to apply for a Bridging Visa while you are waiting for a decision. A Bridging Visa allows you to remain legally in Australia if you do not hold a substantive visa,  and it may be granted in any of the following circumstances:

  • If you have applied for a visa but a decision has not been made yet
  • If you have applied for a tribunal or judicial review of a visa refusal or cancellation
  • If you have applied to the Immigration Minister for personal intervention in your case
  • If you plan to leave Australia but your visa has expired or has been cancelled.

While Bridging Visas are normally granted automatically, there are circumstances when you will need to apply yourself for a Bridging Visa. This is where MyAusPath can assist you.

There are five different types of Bridging Visas (A, B, C, D and E) and we can help you work out the best one for your particular circumstances, especially if you need to apply for a Bridging Visa with Work Rights so you can continue working while you are in Australia or if you need a Bridging Visa with Travel Rights if you need to travel outside Australia temporarily.

How MyAusPath can assist Bridging Visa applicants

At MyAusPath we can answer any questions you may have about this sometimes confusing area of immigration law. We can assist you in several ways, including:
